What foods will help overcome spring weakness and boost immunity
What foods will help overcome spring weakness and boost immunity

Outlandish exotic vegetables and fruits, of course, are healthy. However, not all of their valuable properties are exclusive. More budgetary "native" products will compete with overseas guests!

Nutritionists of various directions agree that vegetables and fruits grown in the "native" climatic zone are most useful for the body. For centuries, our ancestors built their diet on the same turnips and buckwheat porridge - knowledge about their benefits is literally at the genetic level. These foods are much less likely to cause allergic reactions or digestive upsets, and the body is able to absorb the nutrients they contain to the maximum.

Of course, this does not mean that mangoes, shrimps, artichokes and other exotic delicacies should disappear from our table forever. They can and should be feasted on - but from time to time. But the basis of the daily diet should still be products familiar from childhood. Another argument in their favor: the path from the garden to the store counter for domestic products is usually several times shorter than for overseas delicacies.

In most cases, vegetables and fruits brought from abroad are picked not fully ripe (so as not to spoil on the road), then a long transportation plus lying on the counter of the supermarket. As a result, the vitamin value of the fruits harvested several weeks (or even a couple of months) ago is practically zero.

We offer you a tasty, healthy and vitamin replacement!

There will be no diabetes! Jerusalem artichoke instead of artichoke

Both the aristocratic guest artichoke and unpretentious Jerusalem artichoke are extremely useful for those who have a predisposition to diabetes mellitus: these vegetables contain an analogue of starch inulin. This substance is easily absorbed by the body without the formation of glucose. In addition, inulin supports the beneficial intestinal microflora and thereby strengthens our immunity. However, there is one "but": artichokes are eaten after heat treatment, during which most of the nutrients are destroyed. But Jerusalem artichoke is eaten raw (grate it on a fine grater and add to carrot or apple salad) - and all vitamins remain safe and sound!

Jerusalem artichoke

Another good news for "slim women": after you eat Jerusalem artichoke, the feeling of hunger will not bother you for a very long time - this vegetable gives a feeling of fullness, and without extra calories.

Choose quality! When buying an artichoke, make sure that the "leaves" are half-open - this indicates the maturity of the vegetable. However, if there are brownish spots on the vegetable or the tips of the leaves have darkened, have lost their elasticity, this means that the product in front of you is clearly not the first freshness.

Black currant instead of pomegranate

Freshly squeezed pomegranate juice is called a Hollywood cocktail: the "celestials" favor this fruit - and for good reason! Pomegranate is rich in vitamin C and iron (maintains a normal level of hemoglobin in the blood, promotes a good complexion). On our counters, the freshest selected pomegranates can be found only in the autumn-winter period. An excellent alternative (and not only in summer) is black currant.

Ascorbic acid will stop colds

By the content of ascorbic acid, currant is several times higher than that of pomegranate. Regular consumption of this berry protects against diseases of the heart and blood vessels, improves the body's resistance in the SARS season, and increases visual acuity. In addition, frozen currants can be stored all winter, practically without losing their useful properties!

Choose quality! If the pomegranate is fresh, the rind will spring slightly when pressed (hard dry rind is usually found in "old" fruits). Also keep in mind that with increased acidity of the stomach, you should not get too carried away with pomegranates. And it is better to dilute pomegranate fresh with water by a third

The heart will be strong: Turnips instead of bananas

The potassium in bananas regulates heart rate and blood pressure. There is a lot of this trace element in turnips. For the prevention of heart ailments, you can use any of these products, but the range of useful effects of turnips is much wider. In food, you can use not only root vegetables, but also tops (they put it in soups, green borscht - it gives dishes a pleasant aroma). It has been proven that if you eat turnips at least once a week, the risk of cancer of the rectum and colon, as well as the prostate gland, will decrease several times! And in terms of vitamin C content, this root vegetable is twice as high as even lemons and oranges! Eat it fresh, for problems with the gastrointestinal tract - steamed and stewed.

Choose quality! Large, uniformly yellow bananas are often … tasteless. Their small counterparts with small brown specks have a much more pronounced taste. Small red and green baby bananas are also delicious

Lower Cholesterol: Walnut Oil Instead of Olive

Among vegetable oils, walnut oil is the leader in the content of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids (it has a delicate taste and delicate aroma that will decorate any vegetable salad). Moreover, it is in it that these acids are present in the optimal ratio for the human body - 1: 4. American scientists have conducted research. For several days, one group of people was given salami sausage and cheese salad with olive oil, the second - the same sausage and cheese, but with a handful of walnuts. Tests have shown that both olive oil and walnuts help lower blood cholesterol levels. But only nuts manage to maintain the elasticity and flexibility of blood vessels! In addition, polyunsaturated fatty acids are excellent antioxidants that slow down the aging process.

Walnut oil

Actually, walnuts are useful in and of themselves (and they retain their valuable qualities during long storage). In particular, they are rich in folic acid, thanks to which the skin remains silky smooth and the hair shiny.

Choose quality! The main rule for choosing any vegetable oil is to give preference to unrefined first pressing product. Buy oil in glass bottles: when stored in plastic containers, harmful chemicals are formed in the product. Keep the bottle of oil in a dark place, as the sun's rays destroy nutrients. But not in the fridge

Chameleon products

I decided to pamper my family with a delicious homemade dish, and in the midst of cooking I found that there was no required ingredient? Some exotic components can be easily replaced with others found in almost every refrigerator. And without sacrificing taste!

  • Maple Syrup - Liquid flower honey tastes similar.
  • Feel free to replace peanut butter with refined olive or corn oil.
  • Artichoke - If your meal contains canned artichokes, you can use canned bell peppers instead.
  • Capers in salad will successfully replace finely chopped pickles.
  • Lemongrass tastes exactly like fresh lemon balm.
  • Oregano and marjoram are interchangeable.
