Why thrush is dangerous: causes of thrush and the danger of self-medication

Specialist of the project "I am losing my tila" at STB, obstetrician-gynecologist Lyudmila Shupenyuk, spoke about a common disease - thrush.

Many women are sure that they know the symptoms of thrush and boldly self-medicate this disease. However, their diagnoses are often wrong.

In addition, thrush occurs in men! Is it possible to independently recognize and cure thrush?

According to statistics, 3 out of 4 women at least once suffered from vaginal candidiasis, or thrush. It is an inflammatory disease caused by an increase in the number of yeast-like fungi of the genus "candida".

Thrush occurs in men, but it is asymptomatic in the early stages. Later, a man may experience the following symptoms of thrush:

  • redness and itching of the foreskin and glans;
  • white bloom on the head of the penis;
  • pain when urinating.

Symptoms of thrush in women

  • itching in the vulva and vagina;
  • burning sensation when urinating;
  • pain during intercourse;
  • redness and swelling in the intimate area;
  • white discharge with breasts or watery.

The causes of thrush

  • antibiotics;
  • a weakened immune system;
  • diabetes;
  • pregnancy;
  • tight underwear, etc.

Discharge, which women often identify as thrush, can speak of more dangerous diseases - chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis and others.

By treating thrush on their own, girls put themselves at risk. Sexually transmitted diseases can lead to infertility and miscarriages!

It is necessary to treat thrush exclusively individually, and only a doctor can diagnose this disease.

For the prevention of thrush it is necessary:

  • eat right;
  • reduce the amount of sweets;
  • increase the use of fermented milk products;
  • strengthening the immune system;
  • wear natural, not tight underwear;
  • adhere to the rules of personal hygiene.
